Doulla Aebli - Ceramic Work
In 1996 I returned to England after a career as an IT auditor for an American bank in Switzerland. Seeking a bit of the ‘good life’ I settled in Somerset. Having always dabbled in the creative arts I decided to attend pottery courses at the Somerset College of Art and Technology. After sculpting a hare it became clear to me that I wanted to do this more seriously and set up a studio at home, as well as attending some master classes with established animal sculptors.
I do not use any moulds in my work so that each sculpture is unique. They are hand built using coiling and slabbing techniques. My involvement with wildlife sanctuaries has allowed me to observe some of my subjects at close range. In the case of an otter a little bit too close!
All sculptures are made using stoneware clay which is fired to a high temperature. They are frost proof and suitable for both indoors and outside.
